INCIDENTS

Train vs Vehicle, Route 837
On Friday, July 31, 2009 crews from Stations 24 (Elrama), 26 (Finleyville), and Medics 595 (Jefferson Hills) were alerted for s reported vehicle accident on State Route 837 in the area of Houston Run Rd. Upon arrival of Engine 24-2, Chief 24 assumed command and reported all occupants were out of the vehicle and appeared to have fled the scene. The vehicle was assumed to been traveling north on 837 and went over the embankment were it was hit by an oncoming Norfolk Southren Train. No injuries were reported all train traffic was stopped as crews assisted the tow truck with clean up.
   

Popps Lane Structure Fire
On Tuesday July 14, 2009 while enroute to a vehicle accident, volunteers from 24 (Elrama) and 26 (Finleyville) were alerted for a second call in Union Twp. a smoke investigation in the area of Gun Club. Squad 24 was the first to arrive on Popps Ln and reported a fully involved abandoned structure fire. Chief 24 arrived on scene with Engine 24-2 and request a second alarm (14 New Eagle). Engine 24-2's crew quickly contained the fire to the structure and trucks from 26 and 14 supplied water to the scene. Valley Inn 46 was also requested for a tanker due to the lack of fire hydrants. The crews were on scene for about four hours and cleared once the fire was extinguished without any injuries.

Mass Casualty Incident, Union Twp.
Stations 24 and 26 were alerted on the afternoon of Thursday June, 18 for a reported vehicle accident that involved a Mon Valley Transit Bus on Route 88 in Union Township. When Engine 24-1 and Engine 26-2 arrived on scene and found a transit bus off the roadway with moderate damage and a SUV with moderate damage Chief 24 assumed incident command. Medics from Jefferson Hills worked to triage approx 30 patients that were involved in the incident. Most of the patients involved refused treatment but 3 patients were transported to local hospitals. All units returned back in service in about two hours.
  

MVC, 4400 Block Finley Elrama Rd
On the afternoon of Monday, May 18, Volunteers were activated for a vehicle accident with injuries in the 4400 block of Finley Elrama Rd in Union Township. Engine 24-2 was first on scene as Chief 24 assumed incident command  and reported 2 vehicles with hazards, negative entrapment.  Crews from Engine 24-2 worked to stabilize the first vehicle and contained leaking fluids from the second vehicle. Squad 24 arrived on scene and assisted  medics with patient care. Jefferson Hills Medics transported one patient to a local hospital. 
   

 
Gastonville Structure Fire
Early Wednesday Morning, April 28 the Volunteers were alerted for a working structure in the Gastonville area of Union Township. Engine 24-2 was first enroute with a full crew. Engine 26-1, Finleyville, was first to arrive on scene and Chief 26 assumed command of the working structure fire with flames showing from the second division of the unoccupied wooden  two story structure. Crews from 24, 26, and 271 (Library VFC)  made entry into the structure and contained the fire to the second story while other crews worked to ventilate. The fire was quickly brought under control and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Police Fire Marshal.  
   
Snee Road ATV Accident

Station 24 was dispatched to Snee Rd in Union Twp for a male that was injured after an ATV Accident. Upon arrival of Elrama volunteers fellow riders assisted in bringing the patient from the woods. Elrama Crews assisted with Patient Care while Engine 24-2 diverted to GEC to set up a landing zone. The Pt was then Flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center..

Mingo Church MVC with Injuries

Station 24 was dispatched to Mingo Church Rd in Union Township for a Vehicle into a large rock with injuries. Upon arrival of Engine 24-2 all occupants were out of the vehicle with one minor injury. Crews Stabilized the vehicle and contained the leaking fluids. Crews returned back in service in about two hours then stood by in station for 26 who was on a structure fire.

Brush Fire, 4300 Block of Finley Elrama Road
The volunteers were activated in the afternoon of Wednesday, Feburary 25, 2009 for a brush fire close to the road in the area of the 4300 block of Finley Elrama Rd. Engine 24-1 was the first unit to arrive on scene as Chief 24 assumed command of a hillside on fire spreading in either directions. Firefighters pulled an attack line and quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread anymore, once the fire was extinguished crews uncovered hotspots while performing overhaul. Once all hotspots were cooled all units cleared the scene and returned back in service.

Structure Fire, Fairview Ave Elrama
*UPDATE: Arson Suspect Arrested 
On January 23 at about 3:00pm the Elrama VFC firefighters were called into action for a reported structure fire in the village of Elrama. Upon arrival on scene, Chief 24 took command of a fully involved mobile home fire. Initial attack teams attempted to make entry on sides A and B, but stood down due to explosions occurring inside. The crews preceded to make an exterior attack until the fire was manageable. Upon arrival on mutual aid companies crews made entry and extinguished the fire ventilation and overhaul continued for about an hour until all the hot spots were cooled.

Motor Vehicle Accident, Rt 837 Union Twp.
On the morning of January 23, Station 24 volunteers were alerted for a motor vehicle accident on 837 near Shire Oaks. Upon arrival on scene, Chief 24 assumed command and found a pickup truck into the guide rail. All occupants were out of the vehicle and denied any injuries. Crews shut down the north bound lane until PSP arrived and the vehicle was towed away.

Pickup vs. Utility Pole, Union Twp.
Station 24 and 26 were activated on January 21 for a reported vehicle into a utility pole. Upon arrival of Stations 26 and 24 all occupants were out of the vehicle, the vehicle sustained heavy damage to the drivers side after the driver reported losing control and crashed into a utility pole and mailbox. Volunteers secured the area while waiting for the utility company.

Structure Fire, West Elizabeth
Station 24 was dispatched for mutual aid into the Boro of West Elizabeth for a confirmed mobile home fire. Upon arrival of Station 24, the volunteers went to work assisting West Elizabeth VFD and Elizabeth VFD with extinguishing the fire. Crews then assisted with ventilation and overhaul of the structure.

Vehicle Rollover on Finley-Elrama Road
Station 24 was activated early Thanksgiving Morning for a reported vehicle rollover with injuries. Chief 24 was first to arrive and found one SUV on its roof with fluids leaking. Crews from Rescue 24 worked to contain the leaking fluids while the Engine crew pulled a line for precautions. No one was found around the vehicle. Upon arrival on the PA State Police CT Auto was notified for a tow. and Medics from Jefferson Hills and Elizabeth Twp. stood by until the vehicle was over turned.

       


Structure Fire: In the Village of Elrama
On Tuesday evening, November 25, the volunteers of station 24 were alerted for a reported structure fire on Circle Ave in the Village of Elrama. The engine, rescue and squad all responded. Upon arrival on scene chief 24 assumed command and found a two story wooden structure with heavy smoke comming from all sides, all occupants were out of the structure. Firefighters B. Frye and Quinn were the first attact team into the structure and reported a dryer on fire in the basement., The fire was quickly extinguished while Firefighters Bakori and Madaras made entry to check for extension with the thermal imiging camera. Exterior crews worked to ventilate the home with PPV fans and a RIT crew stood by at the Engine along with the Medic 595. Finleyville VFD Engine 26-1 stood by at the hydrant in case a supply line needed to be laid. After the structure was ventilated, crews monitored gas readings and the residence were allowed back into the structure once readings were withoin normal limits. All Elrama VFC equiptment returned in a little over an hour.

  
           
 

   

Multiple Calls Keep Elrama VFC Volunteers busy
Monday October, 20 ,20008 was a busy evening for the volunteers of station 24. The volunteers responded to four emergency calls within a period of three hours. The evening started off with a Smoke investigation in the South Park Mobile Estates, shortly after 24 was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Collision in the 4400-block of Finley-Elrama Rd when a vehicle left the road, sheered a utility pole, landed on its roof, and slid into a house. No one was injured. Station 24 then was activated for a EMS First Responed in the Village of Elrama. Once crews cleared Station 24 was requested to respond to Hill Street for an odor of gas.

Two Structure Fires In Union Township
On Monday October 6th the volunteers of station 24 had a busy day with two structure fires, Station 24 was first dispatched to Nasal Lane in Union for a kitchen fire, Upon arrival on scene along with Finleyville VFD and New Eagle VFD the fire was extinguished and damage was confined to the kitchen. After clearing Nasal Lane, Station 24 was dispatched to the Elrama Tavern for a structure fire, Engine 24 was first to arrive on scene and had the fire knocked down before additional firefighters came from New Eagle, West Elizabeth, and Finleyville.
